Position Title: Assistant Minister -Youth

Reports to: Senior Minister

Direct Reports: Youth Leaders, Year 13 Trainees, Ministry Apprentices (where serving in NCAYouth capacity)

Key Relationships: Pastoral Staff Team, Youth Executive, Youth and their parents

Location: Naremburn Cammeray Anglican Church, 205 Willoughby Rd, Naremburn

Who we are

Naremburn Cammeray Anglican Church (NCAC) is an evangelical parish on Sydney’s lower north shore.

We have two church sites with multiple congregations, and vibrant children’s and youth ministries.

Purpose of the Role

To prayerfully proclaim the gospel of Christ in word and deed, carrying particular responsibility for leading and growing the ministry of NCAYouth - through faithful teaching, discipleship, partnership with parents, and the raising up and training of leaders - in support of the parish’s mission to see the lost saved and the saved strengthened and matured.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Discipleship

• Plan and facilitate weekly NCAYouth ministries;

• Teach the Bible to youth faithfully and in age-appropriate ways;

• Disciple youth and toward maturity in Christ and service of his church;

• Active involvement in teaching SRE in primary and secondary contexts (where applicable);

• In cooperation with the Evening Church Minister, lead services and preach occasionally.

Programmes, Camps & Events

• Plan and oversee youth camps and key events across the year;

• In cooperation with the Kids Minister and Evening Church Minister, oversee transitions from Kids Church into NCAYouth, and NCAYouth into the Evening Church congregation respectively;

• Create pathways for youth to serve the wider body.

Leadership Development

• Recruit, train, and pastorally support NCAYouth leaders;

• Prepare for and lead training meetings and regular 1-2-1’s with leaders;

• In cooperation with the Evening Church Minister, identify and encourage potential Year 13 and MTS candidates.

Families & Partnerships

• Build partnerships with the parents of youth, encouraging and equipping them in their role as primary disciplers;

• Partner with the pastoral staff team to maintain a coherent discipleship pathway from childhood into adulthood here at NCA.

Parish Team

• Contribute positively to the ministry staff team, including whole- parish planning;

• Meet regularly to the Youth Executive;

• In cooperation with the Evening Church Minister, help facilitate the Year 13 partnership with Anglican Youthworks;

• Participate in parish prayer meetings and support of missionaries.

Child Safety

• Contribute to maintaining a Safe Ministry environment, complying with all parish and diocesan child protection policies and screening requirements;

• Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC), Safe Ministry Certificate, and Safe Ministry Check, and ensure all leaders and volunteers in child-related roles do likewise.

Workplace Health & Safety

• Ensure personal safety and the safety of others by complying

with WHS policy and relevant parish and diocesan requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Theological training (Diploma in Theology or equivalent); a higher degree in theology or ministry is advantageous.

• Authorised, or eligible to be authorised, by the Archbishop of Sydney under the Authorisation of Lay Ministry Ordinance 2015;

• A mature and committed Christian man of proven godly character, with evident personal faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ;

• Previous parish ministry experience in youth ministry leadership, including teaching the Bible to teenagers;

• Experience recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteer leaders is desirable;

• Experience partnering with parents and families in ministry is desirable;

• Holds a current WWCC (NSW), or is eligible to obtain one, as well as Safe Ministry Certification.

Skills & Capabilities

• Faithful and compelling Bible teacher, with the ability to preach clearly and apply scripture practically to youth;

• Relational and pastoral, able to build trust with youth, parents, and leaders alike;

• Proven leader, able to recruit, train, and develop volunteer leaders;

• Organised and reliable, able to plan and run programmes, camps, and events safely and well;

• Collaborative team player, able to work with and under authority within a ministry team;

• Self-managing and resilient, able to sustain faithful ministry over the long term;
